Arthur Hayes Bets on Ethereum Hitting $10,000 by 2026
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and chief investment officer at Maelstrom, has set an ambitious target for Ethereum (ETH), predicting it could reach $10,000 by the end of 2026. He shared this forecast in a September 3 newsletter when Ethereum was trading at approximately $2,379. As of October 6, Ethereum's price has risen to $2,704, still 45.3% below its all-time high of $4,946 set in August 2025.
To hit the $10,000 mark by December 31, 2026, Ethereum would need to surge by around 270% in just 86 days, nearly quadrupling its current price. Historically, Ethereum has achieved such dramatic gains only when its market cap was under $30 billion, raising questions about whether a $330 billion network can replicate this performance.
Hayes acknowledges the speculative nature of his $10,000 target, distinguishing it from his broader, long-term view on Bitcoin (BTC). He did not provide a valuation model to support his prediction, which contrasts with more conservative estimates, such as Citi's projection of $3,028 for Ethereum. The absence of a framework makes it difficult to assess the validity of his claim.
For Ethereum to reach $10,000, its market value would need to hit nearly $1.22 trillion, requiring substantial investment from sources like spot Ether ETFs or corporate purchases. Given its historical performance and current market cap, achieving this target by December 2026 appears highly unlikely, though a more modest surge could still benefit holders.
