Arthur Hayes Predicts Bitcoin to Hit $126,000 by Year-End
BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes predicts Bitcoin will hit $126,000 by the end of 2026, a price he describes as a "foregone conclusion." As of October 6, Bitcoin is trading at $86,050, meaning it would need to surge 46% in less than three months to meet Hayes's target. Hayes bases his forecast on increased money printing by governments and central banks, arguing that fresh capital often flows into scarce assets like Bitcoin.
Bitcoin's recent performance suggests a steep climb ahead. Over the past month, it gained about 8%, and in the past week, it rose roughly 3%. Even with sustained momentum, Bitcoin would likely fall short of Hayes's target by December 31. The coin's market capitalization would need to increase by about $800 billion to reach the predicted price, a significant hurdle given the current market conditions.
Hayes's prediction has drawn mixed reactions. While his long-term outlook may hold, the tight timeline for a 46% gain is seen as unlikely. Other financial institutions, like Standard Chartered and Bernstein, have also adjusted their Bitcoin forecasts downward. Hayes acknowledges that his prediction might be more about direction than precise timing, suggesting Bitcoin could still reclaim its record high in 2027.
The challenge for Bitcoin to reach $126,000 by year-end involves overcoming its previous all-time high of $126,080. Investors who bought at the peak may sell to break even, adding resistance to the upward momentum. Even if Hayes's year-end target isn't met, his broader thesis on Bitcoin's potential remains relevant.
