Asia Leads Crypto Adoption as Asia Express Grapples with Security Breach
Asia's dominance in cryptocurrency adoption continues to grow, according to Chainalysis' Global Crypto Adoption Index. The region accounts for almost half of the top 20 nations in terms of grassroots crypto adoption. Japan ranks fourth, followed closely by South Korea at fifth place, while India and Thailand secure sixth and eighth spots respectively. China and Indonesia rank twelfth and fourteenth, with Australia fifteenth and Vietnam eighteenth.
According to Tianwei Liu, co-founder and CEO of StraitsX, the demand for stablecoin settlement in Asia is driven by fragmented currencies and payment systems. Stablecoins are increasingly being used as a payment method, even for everyday transactions.
However, Bitget has announced a significant security breach, with approximately $351.6 million in assets affected. The exchange has temporarily suspended withdrawals while it investigates the incident, which appears to be contained within its hot and warm wallet layers, leaving cold wallets unaffected.
