KDDI, au Coincheck Digital Assets, and HashPort have launched the αU wallet crypto asset wallet within the au PAY payment app in Japan. The new feature allows users to exchange Ponta Points for three assets: Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), Ethereum (ETH), and the yen-pegged stablecoin JPYC.

The service employs a non-custodial model, where users manage their own private keys and have access limited to those who have completed identity verification through au PAY. Registration can be done via the icon labeled 'Crypto Assets' within the au PAY app.

The exchange cap is set at 300 Ponta Points per month, and purchases in Japanese yen are also available. Users can move to the Coincheck app via Coincheck's 'Coincheck OnRamp' to buy WBTC and ETH.

In winter 2026, a staking feature will be added to the αU wallet, which is planned and operated by au Coincheck Digital Assets, a joint venture between KDDI, au Financial Holdings, and Coincheck. The service aims to lower the psychological barrier to crypto adoption by integrating payments and crypto assets into a single app.
