AUSTRAC Suspends Cryptolink's Crypto ATMs Amid Growing FUD
Australia has suspended Cryptolink's Bitcoin ATM operations for three months due to ongoing concerns over its compliance with anti-money laundering obligations. The country's anti-money laundering watchdog, AUSTRAC, cited that Cryptolink failed to meet basic reporting requirements and did not respond to requests for information.
This development comes at a time when the crypto market is already facing struggles, particularly Bitcoin which has yet to break through key resistance levels. Australia has the highest number of crypto ATMs in the Asia-Pacific region, making the suspension of Cryptolink's machines a significant blow to the country's crypto ATM sector.
The industry is facing increasing scrutiny with the U.S. authorities reporting over $388 million in losses from crypto ATM scams in 2025. Several U.S. states have introduced tighter rules or outright bans, while Canada has proposed a nationwide ban. This trend suggests that the market may be underestimating the risks associated with crypto ATMs.
AUSTRAC's CEO emphasized that the regulator will continue to focus on digital currencies as a potential money-laundering risk, reinforcing the growing FUD around the crypto ATM industry.
