Australian Duo Behind Global Cyber Syndicate Unmasked by FBI and Australian Police

Share

Two young Australians have been accused of orchestrating a massive global cybercrime operation that compromised over 1,000 organizations worldwide. Reuben Ian Thomson and Louis Michael Gebler, both in their early twenties, allegedly embedded malware into popular open-source software development tools.

The suspects' scheme allowed them to gain covert access to the infrastructure of thousands of companies, leading to the theft of 300 gigabytes of corporate data and 500,000 user credentials. The compromised networks were then sold on underground darknet forums for cryptocurrency.

Authorities seized large amounts of crypto assets and premium property purchased with them during searches in Perth, Western Australia. Thomson has been formally charged with intentionally dealing with proceeds of crime exceeding $100,000.
