MicroStrategy Snaps Up 4,603 Bitcoin for $369M, Ending Buying Pause
MicroStrategy has resumed its Bitcoin buying campaign, purchasing 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million between August 24 and 30. This acquisition breaks a 10-week hiatus from buying, which had some observers wondering if the company's appetite for Bitcoin was waning.
The funds for this purchase came from share sale proceeds, specifically from the sale of around 18.26 million MSTR shares worth approximately $2.01 billion in mid-to-late August. This created a fresh 'USD Cash' reserve of around $1.59 billion, bringing the company's total available liquidity to about $6.69 billion.
With this latest purchase, MicroStrategy now holds roughly 840,447 BTC, which is approximately 4% of Bitcoin's entire circulating supply. The average acquisition cost across the full portfolio sits at around $75,385 per coin, implying a total cost basis of about $63.36 billion. Given that Bitcoin was trading near $79,000 at the time of Saylor's announcement, this puts MicroStrategy's unrealized gains somewhere in the range of $2.5 billion to $2.8 billion.
MicroStrategy has been aggressively accumulating Bitcoin, acquiring around 175,000 BTC in 2026 while selling roughly 7,000. The net addition of around 168,000 coins represents one of the most aggressive accumulation campaigns any single entity has ever conducted in the crypto market.
