Australia's Commodity Index Slumps to 15.4% YoY Amid Cooling Global Demand
Australia's RBA Commodity Index has cooled down to 15.4% year-on-year in July, a decline from June's revised 16.9%, indicating softer global demand for key exports like iron ore and coal.
The index tracks the prices of Australia's major commodity exports, weighted by their importance to the economy, and measures them in Special Drawing Rights (SDR) to avoid exchange rate fluctuations.
This moderation could ease inflationary pressures and give the Reserve Bank of Australia more policy flexibility, potentially weakening the Australian dollar and shifting capital flows that may affect crypto adoption, decentralized finance (DeFi), and centralized exchange (CEX) trading volumes and token liquidity in Australia.
