Avalanche Helicon Upgrade Cuts Validator Lockups, Raises Uptime Requirement
Avalanche's upcoming Helicon upgrade is set to introduce significant changes for validators on the network, including shorter validation periods and auto-renewal of commitments.
The upgrade, scheduled for September 22 at 15:00 UTC, will reduce the minimum Primary Network validation period from 336 hours to 48 hours. This change aims to improve flexibility for operators, who can now choose how much of each cycle's reward to compound into the next one.
However, this comes with a trade-off, as the new periods require at least 90% uptime to earn rewards, up from 80%. If a validator misses this threshold, they will exit and lose their principal and accrued rewards in earlier cycles. The failed cycle's reward will also be lost.
