Avalanche's Helicon Upgrade Brings Faster, More Flexible Staking
Avalanche's Helicon upgrade has been activated on Mainnet, bringing several key changes aimed at improving staking flexibility and transaction reliability. The update, deployed via AvalancheGo v1.15.0, targets businesses and institutional users seeking greater certainty and control when deploying capital on blockchain networks.
One of the main features of Helicon is a reduction in the minimum staking period from two weeks to just 48 hours. This change makes it easier for institutional treasuries to align staking with cash flow needs or test validator operations without long-term commitments.
The upgrade also introduces automatic staking renewal, eliminating administrative overhead and allowing validators to specify cycle durations and decide how much of their rewards to reinvest. However, the new 90% uptime requirement is stricter, particularly for shorter staking cycles.
