AWS Hands AI Agents a Wallet with Autonomous Payments on Base

Amazon has given its AI agents a wallet through AWS's AgentCore Payments feature. This service, now generally available, allows AI agents to make transactions autonomously on Base, Coinbase's Layer 2 network. The USDC stablecoin is used for settlement, and transactions are completed in hundreds of milliseconds.

The system integrates with both Coinbase's Developer Platform wallets and Stripe's Privy wallet infrastructure using the open payment protocol x402. This enables AI agents to negotiate and complete payments programmatically without human intervention.

Base provides access to over 10,000 payable endpoints through its x402 Bazaar servers, offering a substantial marketplace of services for AI agents to tap into. The use of stablecoin payments on Base brings costs down to near zero, making tiny transactions practical.
