Backed into a Corner: Adam Back-Linked Ventures Face Turbulence
Adam Back-linked Bitcoin ventures are facing significant challenges, including legal issues, funding headaches, and security concerns. The turbulence affects businesses tied to Back, who has been linked to President Donald Trump's crypto-friendly policies.
Back, a renowned figure in the crypto space, has denied being Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. However, his involvement with Blockstream, which he co-founded in 2014, and its mining arm, Blockstream Mining, has raised concerns. In 2025, Blockstream reported that the mining business had secured over $350 million via a combination of debt and equity.
The company's Liquid Network was hacked in 2018, resulting in the theft of around 4,000 Bitcoin (BTC) worth approximately $320 million at the time. Additionally, BSTR Holdings' plan to amass $4 billion in BTC through a merger with a blank-check firm tied to Cantor Fitzgerald collapsed.
Exacore, a firm linked to Back's associate Chris Cook, has been involved in several disputes over unpaid bills and equipment purchases. Blockstream claims it has no operational involvement or affiliation with Exacore. The company also issued two mining note programs, BMN1 and BMN2, which have raised concerns about their security and viability.
