Backpack Launches Tokenized Brazil ETF on Solana Amid Market Rally
Backpack Securities has introduced a tokenized version of the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ) on the Solana blockchain. This innovation allows crypto-native investors to access Brazilian equities through blockchain infrastructure, with the tokenized EWZ redeemable 1:1 for traditional ETF shares.
The launch coincides with a significant rally in Brazilian markets following the first-round presidential election. The EWZ saw a 13% jump, while Brazil’s benchmark Bovespa index gained over 8%, and the Brazilian real strengthened by more than 4%. The election results, which sent both leading candidates into a runoff, sparked optimism about a market-friendly fiscal agenda.
Backpack Securities, in collaboration with Sunrise, is pioneering the conversion of traditional securities into Solana-based tokens. This model enables crypto investors to gain exposure to conventional markets without leaving blockchain-based financial systems. Solana’s high-throughput network supports efficient trading and settlement, keeping tokenized assets within a familiar digital environment.
The expansion of tokenized equities beyond crypto-native assets is evident in the growing market capitalization. DefiLlama reported that the market cap of tokenized equities had surged ninefold over the past year to over $3.7 billion, with around $2.7 billion in onchain public equities. This trend highlights the increasing integration of blockchain infrastructure with traditional financial markets.
