Balance Coin Stablecoin Collapses After Oracle Manipulation Attack
On July 22, 2026, an attack on the Balance Coin (BLC) algorithmic stablecoin caused its price to plummet from $1 to approximately $0.0014, a decline of over 99 percent.
The exploit resulted in an estimated loss of $3.5 million in nominal market capitalization and approximately $912,000 in losses for 42DAO, the governance entity behind the Balance Protocol.
Security firms SlowMist and PeckShield identified the exploit vector as a manipulation of the protocol's Bitcoin price oracle on BNB Chain.
The attack was successful because the protocol lacked three key safeguards: price deviation checks, an Oracle Security Module (OSM), and independent verification of prices by liquidation modules.
