Balancer Holders Approve Shutdown Amid Uncertainty Over Future

Instruments
BAL
Share

Balancer holders have approved an orderly wind-down of the protocol, paving the way for its eventual shutdown. The vote, which saw over 99% of votes cast in favor, will allow liquidity providers to withdraw their funds before the final stages begin.

The process is expected to take several months, with key dates including October 16 and November 30. On these dates, partners can ask for specific V3 pools to remain live through November 30, while on October 30, pools will move to withdrawals only.

BAL holders, however, have been given a route to the protocol treasury, with the first distribution round expected to open at the end of May 2027. They can burn their tokens for a pro rata share of the treasury, although no specific percentage is mentioned.
