Balancer Holders Back Protocol Shutdown, Treasury Distribution Ahead
Balancer's cryptocurrency price has fallen to $0.1329 after its holders approved an orderly shutdown of the protocol.
The vote, which passed with over 99% support, sets the protocol on a path toward treasury distribution for BAL holders. The plan includes keeping withdrawals open until October 30, allowing liquidity providers to remove their funds at any time.
BAL holders will be able to burn their tokens for a pro rata share of the treasury by the end of May 2027, while tetuBAL holders have a separate payout plan. The protocol's shutdown follows a difficult period, including an exploit in November 2025 that drained about $128 million from V2 pools.
