Bank of England Tests Stablecoin-Digital Pound Infrastructure
The Bank of England has partnered with Polygon Labs to trial stablecoin and digital pound infrastructure. This collaboration is part of the central bank's Digital Pound Labs initiative, which aims to accelerate international payment settlement for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
NOBO Finance and Dun & Bradstreet are also participating in this project, bringing their expertise in business intelligence and credit verification systems. The trial will explore dual-currency settlement, where exporters accept stablecoins and UK importers use digital pounds.
The initiative focuses on eliminating financing barriers affecting smaller enterprises by accelerating settlement processes and providing portable business credentials. This could reduce waiting intervals for SMEs and provide lenders with more reliable information.
