The Bank of England is pushing forward with its Digital Pound Lab program, bringing in Polygon Labs to test the feasibility of using stablecoins and smart contract tools in cross-border trade finance.

The trial will focus on small-business payments, digital identity, and settlement, rather than a live launch of central bank digital currency. The Bank of England has repeatedly emphasized that this experiment does not mean Britain has decided to issue a digital pound.

Polygon will provide wallets, smart contracts, and stablecoin settlement through its Open Money Stack, allowing the participants to examine payment flows without exposing the financial system to live transactions.
