Bankman-Fried Paid Seven Figures for Uniswap.com Domain
Uniswap founder Hayden Adams revealed that Sam Bankman-Fried paid seven figures for the Uniswap.com domain, which was later secured by Uniswap Labs through a legal proceeding in 2021. The original owners of the domain had wanted a similar payment, but Uniswap's team declined.
According to WIPO records, the Uniswap.com domain was first registered in 2000 and was acquired by Registration Private, Domains By Proxy, LLC / Future XXX of Hong Kong on April 7, 2021. The respondent in the proceeding knew about Uniswap Labs before acquiring the domain and regarded the company as a competitor.
The WIPO panel found that the SushiSwap redirect intentionally created confusion over whether Uniswap Labs was connected to, sponsored or endorsed the destination. As a result, the domain was deemed to have been registered and used in bad faith.
