Banks Flood EU Crypto Registry as MiCA Register Expands
The European Union's crypto registry has seen a significant increase in banking institutions joining the fold. According to an analysis of data from the European Securities and Markets Authority, there are now nearly 80 banks listed on the MiCA register, up from about 40 at the end of June. This represents close to one in four providers on the bloc's official crypto registry, with their share increasing from around 17% to just under 23%
Germany is driving much of this shift, with its number of authorized providers under MiCA regulation rising from 58 at the start of July to 89. This accounts for 25.5% of the European registry and includes numerous cooperative and regional lenders such as Volksbank, Raiffeisenbank, and VR Bank institutions, alongside larger commercial banks.
Deutsche Bank is among those entering the market, confirming plans to launch a digital-asset custody service for corporate and institutional clients in Europe. The bank expects regulatory approval in October and targets launching the service before the end of 2026.
