Banks Unite for Global Stablecoin Launch in 2027
Major financial institutions have come together to launch a stablecoin project in 2027. The initiative, which involves 21 leading banks and financial firms across various geographies, aims to create a globally available US dollar-denominated digital asset.
The participating institutions include Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Investments, Santander, BBVA, Deutsche Bank, UBS, MUFG Bank, and Standard Bank. They plan to combine bank-grade compliance, governance, and institutional risk management for the stablecoin venture.
The focus will be on a reserve-backed stablecoin, with plans to expand into other G7 currencies over time. A euro-denominated stablecoin is expected to be a priority, supporting wholesale, institutional, and retail use cases, including cross-border payments and digital asset settlements.
