Base Activates Cobalt Upgrade with Token Governance and Conditional Trading Tools
Base has rolled out its Cobalt upgrade, introducing new tools for tokenized assets on the Ethereum layer-2 network. The update brings tighter issuer controls and a new transaction mechanism to make conditional trading more practical.
Cobalt expands Base's B20 standard by allowing issuers to apply multiple compliance and administrative rules to tokenized assets. This includes controlled transfers via authorized administrators, who can also attach public notes to these transactions.
The upgrade also introduces Validity Transactions, which enable users to submit conditional transactions that only become eligible once specific onchain conditions are met. These transactions remain private until they are included in a block, reducing the risk of front-running or speculation around the trigger.
