Base Breaks Free from Optimism Infrastructure
Base, a Coinbase-backed Ethereum Layer 2 network, is transitioning away from Optimism's OP Stack infrastructure. The move, announced on Tuesday, involves consolidating Base's codebase into a single repository operated by Base itself.
The change aims to reduce Base's reliance on external dependencies maintained by Optimism, Flashbots, and Paradigm. This shift will also increase Base's hard fork schedule from three to six per year.
Node operators will need to migrate from Optimism releases to Base's client software to remain compatible with future network upgrades. The transition period will see Base maintain compatibility with OP Stack specifications and continue supporting existing RPC endpoints.
