Base Network to Undergo Cobalt Hard Fork on September 30
The Base network is set to undergo a hard fork called Cobalt on September 30, 2026, at 18:00 UTC. This means that deposits and withdrawals over the Base network will be frozen an hour before the switch, at 17:00 UTC.
Binance has announced that it will support the upgrade and has set a freeze for September 30 at 17:00 UTC. The exchange will pause transfers between the exchange and users' wallets during this time but trading will continue uninterrupted.
The hard fork is not an opportunity to claim new tokens or participate in a chain split, as some may believe. Instead, it's a maintenance upgrade that will bring B20 extensions and conditional transactions to the network.
Conditional transactions are a tool for applications to execute only under certain market conditions, while B20 extensions are additions to the token standard introduced with the previous Beryl upgrade.
