Base Surpasses Arbitrum One with Record-Shattering $14 Billion TVL
Base, a leading Ethereum layer two (L2) network, has reached a total value locked (TVL) of $14.42 billion as of September 7, 2026. This milestone surpasses that of Arbitrum One's $12.6 billion TVL during the same period.
Base processed an impressive 292 million user operations within this timeframe while paying Ethereum a mere $8,800 in data, proof, and state-update fees. This development is attributed to the 2024 Dencun upgrade, which enabled rollups to utilize cheaper data lanes that expire after approximately 18 days, rather than residing on-chain indefinitely.
The average daily fee bill to Ethereum mainnet for Base amounts to roughly $290. The combined TVL of the top two L2 networks, Base and Arbitrum, exceeds $27 billion.
