Base Unveils Cobalt Upgrade with Conditional Transactions and Enhanced Security
Base, the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, has successfully implemented its third mainnet upgrade, 'Cobalt'. This latest update introduces two key features: conditional reserved transactions and B20 asset standards.
The conditional reserved transactions allow users to submit a transaction in advance and have it executed only when specific conditions are met. Users can also set an expiration period for each transaction, giving them more control over the timing of their transactions.
The B20 standard adds support for composite policies, which enable rules such as know-your-customer (KYC) allowlists and sanctions blocklists to be applied together using 'AND' or 'OR' conditions. This feature is designed to provide greater flexibility and security for users.
In addition to these new features, Base plans to reduce its block production time from 2 seconds to 200 milliseconds within the next few months. The team also aims to add protocol-level default support for smart accounts, gas sponsorship, and bundled processing of multiple transactions in the near future.
