Berlin Refuses $2.4M Bitcoin Ransom Amid Growing Trend of Ransomware Attacks

The city of Berlin has refused to pay a $2.4 million Bitcoin ransom demanded by hackers from the Rhysida ransomware group after they breached two Senate departments on August 14.

According to reports, the breach affected the housing and transport departments, causing delays in benefits and services for residents.

The hackers initially set a deadline of September 4 for payment, but when it expired without receiving any funds, they published 5.7 terabytes of stolen data on the dark web.

City officials are now investigating the leaked data while warning residents to be cautious of potential fraud.
