Bessent Warns Digital Assets May Face New Measures in Iran Sanctions Push
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that digital assets could face new measures as part of the Trump administration's push to increase economic pressure on Iran.
Bessent identified digital assets, airlines, and the maritime industry as possible targets, stating 'my message to everyone is stay away' from providing support to Tehran.
The comments came after Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his support for Iran at the G20 gathering in North Carolina, which was followed by Bessent's warning that governments and businesses should avoid maintaining ties with Iran.
Bessent noted that digital assets have been a recurring part of Washington's financial actions against Tehran this year, citing $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency seized or frozen from Iranian sources since the conflict began.
