Bessent Warns of Consequences as CLARITY Act Vote Looms
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged the Senate to advance the CLARITY Act, a bill establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets. In a recent tweet, he emphasized that failure to pass the bill would send 'a troubling signal' to allies and adversaries alike about America's willingness to lead on digital asset regulation.
Bessent referenced his July statement, where he called on the Senate to immediately vote on the CLARITY Act, labeling it landmark legislation. He also pointed out the contradiction in Democrats accepting millions from the crypto industry while opposing the bill.
The September 15 cloture vote is scheduled, requiring 60 votes to advance. All 53 Senate Republicans have committed to voting yes, but seven Democratic votes are still needed. House Financial Services Chairman French Hill believes Republicans can secure the required votes.
