US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged the Senate to pass the Clarity Act after their August recess. He emphasized that this legislation will prevent 'bad actors' from exploiting significant digital asset technology. Bessent warned that failing to pass the bill would send an unsettling signal to allies and adversaries alike, indicating that the US is unwilling to lead in the future of digital assets.

Earlier in July, Bessent stated that passing the Clarity Act was crucial for standing on the side of 'American exceptionalism.' The act has already been passed by the House of Representatives last year, aiming to establish a regulatory framework and clarify which category digital assets fall under: securities, commodities, or stablecoins. However, progress stalled due to disagreements between banking lobby groups and crypto companies over stablecoin earnings.

Despite this, President Trump also expressed support for the bill, calling on lawmakers to push it through.
