Bessent Warns Senate Passage of CLARITY Act Crucial for US National Security

Share

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged senators to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, also known as the CLARITY Act and designated H.R. 3633, ahead of a crucial vote on Tuesday.

In a September 9 post on X, Bessent emphasized that the legislation is a regulatory and national security priority for the U.S., allowing it to combat illicit activity involving cryptocurrencies.

He warned that failing to pass the bill would send a 'troubling signal' to allies and adversaries alike, suggesting that America is unwilling to lead on digital assets and willing to forgo enhanced national security tools.

The CLARITY Act has already passed the House and advanced through the Senate Banking Committee. However, some Republican senators have expressed concerns over unresolved negotiations on ethics provisions involving presidents and their family members with digital asset businesses.
