Biden Launches LAPTOP Meme Coin to Target Trump's Crypto Empire
Hunter Biden is launching a meme coin called LAPTOP on Base, a blockchain built by Coinbase. The token is set to launch on Wednesday and aims to take aim at President Donald Trump.
Nearly a third of the coins will go to the founders, including Hunter Biden. The Wall Street Journal reported that 20% of the tokens are intended for people who lost money investing in Trump's crypto ventures, while another 20% will be distributed as part of an airdrop to subscribers of Biden's Substack and a mailing list curated by his friend Andrew Callaghan.
The token's supply is 1 billion, with founders holding 30%. However, this allocation can only be unlocked if certain conditions are met, including a Democratic win in the 2028 elections and a new record for Bitcoin. If these conditions are not met, up to 30% of the tokens can be destroyed.
TRUMP's price performance has been dismal, with its value sitting at around $2.26 billion, or about 97% below its January 2025 peak of $73.43. The Trump family's business, World Liberty Financial, is also facing scrutiny over allegations of corruption and profiting from crypto deals.
