Bier's Departure Leaves X Without Top Product Executive Amid Crypto Uncertainty

Share

Nikita Bier, former head of product at X, has stepped down after over a year in the role. He will remain as an adviser.

Bier's departure marks an interesting time for the company, coming just weeks after the launch of its payments product, X Money. One major question remains: when, or if, cryptocurrencies will be integrated into the platform.

The answer to that question may lie with Smart Cashtags, a feature announced in January 2026 that aims to turn cashtags into a financial toolkit. However, Bier's departure highlights the challenges faced by X in building a bank-like product without crypto capabilities.

X Money, which launched in July 2026, offers a range of features including peer-to-peer payments, wires, and bill pay, as well as a Visa debit card and yield on balances up to 6 percent. However, one notable absence is any mention of cryptocurrencies.
