Binance Backs USDC Stablecoin Issuer Circle with $100 Million Investment
Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has secured a significant investment from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange. As part of a five-year deal, Binance will invest $100 million in Circle at $80.84 per share, with the shares subject to a two-year lockup period.
The agreement also calls for Circle to pay Binance a monthly incentive fee tied to USDC balances on the platform. This deal is seen as a strategic move by Circle to expand its global reach and compete more directly with stablecoin giant Tether in international crypto markets.
Circle has historically focused on the U.S. market, but this partnership aims to tap into Binance's large user base globally. The investment is expected to help Circle increase adoption of USDC and solidify its position as a major player in the stablecoin market.
