Binance Bolsters Ties to USDC Stablecoin Issuer Circle with $100M Investment
Binance has significantly increased its ties to USDC stablecoin issuer Circle through a $100 million private placement of equity, which also includes an expanded commercial partnership between the two companies.
The investment comes with significant restrictions for Binance, as it is locked out of selling, transferring, or hedging the shares for up to two years, although it retains voting rights on the acquired shares.
Circle will pay Binance a monthly incentive fee tied to USDC balances maintained via Circle's Modular Smart Contract Wallet service, and Binance has agreed to promote the USDC stablecoin as part of the deal.
The partnership is seen as a strategic move by both companies, with Binance gaining a direct equity stake in Circle and access to voting rights, while Circle benefits from Binance's promotional efforts and increased exposure for its USDC stablecoin.
