Binance Boosts Cybersecurity Awareness for African Crypto Users
Binance, the leading global cryptocurrency exchange, is emphasizing cybersecurity awareness during Cybersecurity Awareness Month by urging African crypto users to safeguard themselves against online scams and cyber threats. The company views user protection as a continuous effort, backed by robust compliance measures, law enforcement partnerships, and free educational resources.
Across Africa, cryptocurrency has become integral to daily financial activities, including remittances, savings, and business transactions. As more individuals engage with digital assets, scammers are developing new tactics to exploit them, often through fake websites, impersonation, and misleading offers.
Binance allocates around $300 million annually to compliance, employing nearly 1,500 staff in related roles. Artificial intelligence aids these teams in detecting suspicious activities, with Binance's systems intercepting approximately $10.53 billion in potential fraud between 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The exchange also collaborates with law enforcement globally, handling over 71,000 requests and assisting in the recovery of more than $130 million in illicit funds.
Education remains a cornerstone of Binance's strategy against cybercrime. The company has provided free crypto education to over 400,000 people in Africa through its Binance Masterclass program and offers free online courses via Binance Academy. Initiatives like the "Know Your Scam" campaign help users recognize phishing, fake websites, and other common scams. "Security is what earns trust and trust is what allows crypto to keep growing in Africa," said Samukele Mkhize, Compliance Head for Binance Africa.
