Binance Brings Crypto Payments to Millions of Japanese Merchants
Binance has launched Binance Pay at millions of PayPay-supported merchants in Japan. This new service allows overseas visitors to spend more than 100 cryptocurrencies at participating stores.
The payments are processed through HIVEX, a payment interoperability framework that connects overseas QR code payment services to Japanese merchants. Tether's USDt stablecoin is used as the backend settlement layer, and merchants receive Japanese yen for their transactions.
This move by Binance marks the first time a crypto payment service has reached PayPay merchants through HIVEX. With Japan welcoming a record 42.7 million international visitors in 2025, this new service is expected to cater to the growing number of travelers using mobile payment apps while abroad.
