Binance Dominates Crypto Trading Volume with Near-40% Share

Binance's dominance in crypto trading volume is a significant concern for market stability and security. According to data from CoinGecko, Binance held a 37% share of spot trading volume among the top 10 centralized exchanges in Q1 2026, down slightly from its full-year 2025 performance where it commanded 39.2% of a total $18.7 trillion in spot volume.

The next five largest platforms combined for around 23-25%, with Bybit coming in second at 8.1% and MEXC third at 7.8%. This concentration of trading activity creates a self-reinforcing cycle, where more traders are drawn to the platform due to its deep liquidity, further increasing its dominance.

The risk of a single point of failure is also a concern, as seen in the aftermath of FTX's collapse in late 2022. If a regulatory action or security breach were to hit Binance, it could have significant systemic implications for the entire market.
