Binance EU Exemption Under Microscope Amid MiCA Regs
EU regulators are scrutinizing Binance's use of a MiCA exemption to continue serving some European customers without a license. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and local authorities in France, Germany, and Greece are reviewing whether the exchange met the exemption's conditions.
Binance failed to secure a MiCA license during the summer but continued providing services under the exemption. ESMA has clarified that the exemption should be used narrowly and cannot serve as a way to avoid MiCA requirements.
The MiCA transition period ended on July 1, 2026. If regulators reject Binance's explanation, they may pursue fines or other enforcement measures.
