A recent case involving Binance and Russian investigators highlights the complex role that cryptocurrency exchanges play in law enforcement investigations.

Russian authorities obtained customer information from Binance, including transaction records and personal details, in connection with a terrorism-financing case against Yuri Belenkiy, a 49-year-old IT specialist.

The information was reportedly used as evidence to support charges that Belenkiy sent over $700 in cryptocurrency to organizations linked to Ukraine's military between January 2023 and March 2024.

Binance stated that it cooperates with law enforcement requests, subject to applicable privacy and regulatory requirements.
