Binance Faces Investigation Over Alleged Iran-Linked Trades
US authorities are investigating Binance for allegedly allowing Iran-linked trades to pass through its platform. The Manhattan US attorney's office is handling the inquiry, which involves the Justice Department's criminal division in Washington.
The probe centers on whether Binance failed to stop trading that breached US sanctions on Iran. While the transactions under examination are unclear, authorities are scrutinizing whether the exchange knowingly allowed the trades.
Binance stated it maintains a zero-tolerance approach to sanctions violations and cooperates with law enforcement. The exchange pleaded guilty almost three years ago to failing to comply with US banking and sanctions law, paid $4.3 billion, and took on two corporate monitors.
