Binance Faces Regulatory Storm as DOJ Investigates Iran Sanctions Violations

Binance is facing another regulatory storm as the US Department of Justice investigates whether the cryptocurrency exchange violated US sanctions against Iran by knowingly allowing transactions involving Iran.

The investigation, which follows a settlement in 2023 where Binance paid $4.3 billion to reach a settlement and agreed to strengthen its compliance program, has not yet led to significant price drops for BNB, with the token instead rising by about 5% on the news.

Three scenarios are possible: full compliance, supplementary fines and settlement, or finding of breach of 2023 agreement terms. If the investigation results in severe violations, it could trigger panic selling and push the price of BNB down toward $530.
