Binance-Fueled Tokenized Equities Surge by 4.4 Times in a Month
Binance's co-CEO Richard Teng highlighted the rapid growth of tokenized equities market, which saw volumes surge by 4.4 times in just one month.
The tokenized equities market captured 2.3% of SPY's trading volume in July, up from 0.4% in June. This represents a significant increase, with the year-to-date total through the end of July standing at $34.3 billion.
Binance's own product, bStocks, has been a major contributor to this growth. Launched on June 11, it offers 1:1 backed tokenized versions of US stocks and ETFs. By July 29, bStocks had crossed $500 million in market capitalization, accounting for 27% of the entire global tokenized equity market cap.
The rise of tokenized equities can be attributed to their ability to offer traders the convenience of buying fractional shares at any hour and settling transactions in seconds. This is particularly appealing to those who face barriers such as restrictive local regulations, limited brokerage access, or high fees.
