Binance Hands Over Client Details to Russian Authorities

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, handed over client details to Russian authorities that were used to charge a Russian IT specialist with terrorism financing. The exchange provided information on cryptocurrency donations to Ukrainian fundraising campaigns, which Moscow considers extremist or terrorist.

The case involves Yuri Belenkiy, who was detained in September 2025 and is now awaiting trial in Russia. He allegedly sent over $700 to the Ukrainian military and an associated group, known as the Azov Regiment, which Moscow designates as a terrorist organization.

Binance exited Russia in 2023, citing its compliance strategy, but it appears that the exchange retained a channel of communication with Russian law enforcement.
