Binance Injects $100M into Circle, Bolsters USDC Competition
Circle's USDC stablecoin has received a significant boost with its expanded partnership with Binance, one of the world's largest crypto exchanges. The deal gives Binance a $100 million investment in Circle and a five-year agreement to promote and integrate USDC across its platform.
As a result, the number of USDC-quoted spot markets on Binance has increased from 140 to 329 since the initial partnership in late 2024. Monthly trading volume for USDC on Binance has also grown significantly, reaching over $80 billion compared to around $20-$40 billion before the partnership.
While USDC's market capitalization is still lower than that of Tether's USDT at about $74 billion versus $140 billion, analysts believe that Binance's distribution network could help Circle expand USDC adoption in emerging markets. However, some experts caution that shifting users away from USDT will take time due to its established liquidity and user base.
