Binance Invests $100M in Circle to Bolster Stablecoin Infrastructure
Binance has taken a significant step in strengthening its stablecoin infrastructure by investing $100 million in Circle, the issuer of the popular USDC stablecoin. The investment was made via private placement on September 17, where Binance acquired 1,237,011 Class A shares at $80.84 each.
This price represents a markdown compared to Circle's trading value prior to the deal closure. The investment is part of a comprehensive five-year partnership agreement between the two companies, which includes recurring monthly incentive payments based on USDC balances held through Circle's Modular Smart Contract Wallet infrastructure.
Binance will also execute promotional campaigns for USDC across its ecosystem as part of the agreement. Binance co-CEO Richard Teng stated that the investment demonstrates the company's dedication to making digital currency accessible to everyone, saying 'Access to a stable, reliable digital dollar shouldn't be reserved for the privileged few.'
Circle's co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire emphasized the potential of the partnership to democratize dollar-denominated financial infrastructure globally. The alliance between Binance and Circle aims to accelerate adoption of USDC throughout Binance's exchange platform and wallet ecosystem.
