Binance Lists Gold and Silver Options Amid Commodity Futures Boom
Binance recently listed gold and silver options on its platform, marking a significant development in the world of cryptocurrency derivatives. The contracts exercise only at expiry, settle in USDT, and involve no physical metal at any point.
The prices are referenced from a weighted average drawn from several independent third-party vendors reporting traditional metals markets. This is not an unusual design choice, but the location is. Binance's gold perpetuals have been trading since January 2026, reaching a peak daily volume of $7.77 billion, with silver perpetuals at $7.27 billion.
Shunyet Jan, Head of Exchange and Trading at Binance, notes that 'commodity options build on the momentum' of their commodity perpetuals, which have seen strong demand since their introduction earlier this year. Gold has hit record highs, and investors are seeking inflation hedges outside traditional equities.
The listing data is telling: between January 2025 and May 2026, crypto exchanges processed $1.32 trillion in perpetual futures tied to traditional assets, compared to $104.21 billion across all of 2025. CoinGecko tracked monthly volume in the category rising from $230 million in January 2025 to $347.17 billion in May 2026.
