Binance Paves Way for Continuous Trading with New Contracts and Regulatory Exemption
The Binance Exchange has announced two significant developments that signal a shift in the way cryptocurrency trading is conducted.
The exchange's futures arm will launch the USDBRLUSDT perpetual contract, which tracks the US dollar against the Brazilian real, on September 21, 2026. This contract settles in USDT and trades 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This is notable because traditional currency markets close over weekends, unlike cryptocurrency pairs. The Binance Exchange has also stated that it will use a weighted average from third-party FX data vendors to calculate the price during regular trading hours, but will switch to a moving average based on its own order book during weekends and holidays.
In a separate announcement, regulators have granted an 'Innovation Exemption' that allows approved trading venues to trade tokenized versions of US stocks using on-chain liquidity pools. The exemption requires that tokenized stocks carry the same rights as traditional shares, and trading must stop if the underlying stock is halted on its primary exchange.
Binance has welcomed this development, stating that it confirms real equities can be traded on public blockchains with proper rights and guardrails.
