Binance Phishes Own Staff as India Censors Decentralized Messaging App
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance conducts regular simulated phishing attacks against its own employees to test their security awareness and identify vulnerabilities. The 'red team', an internal ethical hacking unit, carries out these fake attacks on a monthly basis.
Binance's chief security officer Jimmy Su explained that the purpose of these tests is to understand if the company's security hygiene is improving. Those who fail the tests are given remediation training.
In related news, India's government has ordered GitHub to remove repositories for decentralized messaging app BitChat, citing concerns over potential misuse. The Internet Freedom Foundation has condemned this move as unconstitutional and a threat to free speech and open-source software.
