Stablecoin Market Shrinks for First Time in Four Years Amid Record Transaction Volume
The stablecoin market contracted for the first time in nearly four years, shedding $4.8B to reach $305.1B in Q2 2026, according to CoinGecko's report.
This decline marks the end of a remarkable streak of uninterrupted growth and follows a broader crypto market drop of 12.6% during the same period.
Circle's USDC took the brunt of the damage, falling 4.8%, or approximately $3.7B, while Tether's USDT maintained its dominance, now sitting at around 60% of the total stablecoin supply.
However, adjusted stablecoin transaction volume hit a record $1.79T in June alone, a 63% increase month-over-month, indicating that despite the decline in market cap, users are still actively utilizing these assets.
